“Every day I look around and I think: isn’t this wonderful?”

Monarch Moment: “We all took different roads to get here, but there’s such a great group of people in this community.”

Barbara M. has had many chapters of life—a stewardess for American Airlines, a mother and four-time wife, an executive assistant to company presidents, to name a few—but she places perhaps the most value in her golden years.

“I don’t ever wish I was any younger,” she said. “I enjoy being older and being with people my age. After all this life we’ve led, everyone is just so interesting.”

Born in Somerville, Barbara graduated from college and then took to the skies as a stewardess, traveling across the globe before landing back in the Bay State. She had one son, with whom she’s been close all their lives together and now lives close by. One of her guiding principles—do what’s in your heart—helped shape her professional and personal path, trusting her ticker to take her exactly where she needed to be. And these days, Barbara’s heart is full.

“The sun comes up and here we are in this beautiful world, and there are so many choices you can make, so many ways you can help people, so many opportunities to take care of one another,” said Barbara. “Life is gratitude and there’s so much to be grateful for. Every day I look around and I think: isn’t this wonderful?”
