If Robert K. were looking for the key to life, he’d check the ignition first. A lifelong car lover, Robert grew up in Rockport, Massachusetts, and spent his life as a part of the community. His father worked at a garage on Broadway, and Robert grew up pumping gas to make money. When he was old enough, he bought the gas station and worked with his brother fixing cars, making an honest living, and having a blast while doing it.
Behind the wheel of his ‘57 Ford Thunderbird or ‘66 Ford Fairlane GT 390, Robert spent weekends racing up and down 128 with the guys, and giving rides to the local college girls who caught his eye. That’s how he met his wife Sharon, to whom he was married for over five decades, and with whom he had two children, Michael Robert and Robin Elizabeth.
Life in the fast lane soon took a back seat to life as a family. Sharon and Robert’s house was filled with fun and laughter. As their children grew and grandchildren were born, the family stayed local and their love for each other only grew.
“I may not be the smartest man,” said Robert. “But I know this: if you can find someone who loves you, and take care of each other, and do as much as you can for one another, that’s the best thing there is.”
